Az MSI Katana GF66 abszolút meglepett, mivel inkább a középkategóriából érkezik és a sorozat 400-500 ezer Forint körüli árazása alapján a masinát valóban az ár-érték arányban balanszolt polcokról lehet a kosárba pakolni. Ehhez képest a teljesítménye meggyőző, megadott korlátai között korrekt dolgokra képes, és pl. a 144 Hz-es képfrissítésével azért tud felfelé villantani is.
Alapvetően még tetszik is, bár az i7-3050Ti párost bicebócának érzem: vagy a GPU-ból kellene jobb (van egyébként 3070-es modell is), vagy CPU-ból kisebb. És úgy talán az árazása is jobb lenne, bár jelen helyzetben én nem merem megítélni, mennyire jó vétel ez most. E-sportra, visszafogott grafikai beállításokkal blockbusterekkel való játékra alapjában véve nem rossz ez így, de a „jövőállóságát“ minimum kérdésesnek érzem.
Though we wish the MSI Katana GF66 had a more vivid screen, a little more CPU muscle, and longer battery life, none of those flaws stops it from being a respectable budget gaming laptop. It offers GeForce RTX 3060 graphics at an RTX 3050 Ti (or even regular RTX 3050) price, and that GPU helps it make the most of its 144Hz display.
MSI’s Katana GF66 12UD is a thoroughly average budget to mid-range gaming laptop. It’s fast enough to handle most modern titles at 30 to 60 frames-per-second, especially if you’re willing to compromise on detail settings. It also packs strong processor performance.
MSI made improvements in many areas in the Katana GF66, showing even without top values in the configured TDP limits that gaming can also be done relatively affordable. However, the Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti and the Intel Core i7-12700H are still a bit of a sham. This is another case where we would have really liked more clear specifications on the TDP from the manufacturer. But the real problem for demanding gamers is the bad display. With its slow response times and bad color reproduction, the display isn't really 100% suitable for gaming.
Nevertheless, it is the gaming laptops that do opt for non-RTX cards that seem likely worthy of the attention of those who value, well, value in 2022. You may have to sacrifice some performance, but if you’re after a portable vehicle for your higher-refresh-rate PC games, that also beats buying a gaming PC and monitor combination for cost, it’s still the way to go. But, with the MSI Katana GF66 and its $1,000-plus pricing alongside poor battery life, the necessary compromises feel too hard to swallow.

It’s fair to say that the MSI Katana GF66 doesn’t quite stack up to the laptops that cost well over double its price, but for the money it’s plenty powerful enough for all your PC gaming needs. If you can cope with niggles like a subpar trackpad and low battery life then you’ll be rewarded with a beast of a laptop without having to break the bank.
If all you need is an affordable gaming laptop with good performance, YES. Otherwise, everything else from the not-so-vivid display and short battery life doesn’t help things either, and you can do better elsewhere for the price.
The MSI GF66 is a decent gaming laptop with decent performance. It's affordably priced, but is outperformed by other gaming laptops with the same or lower price. It's worth considering, but don't expect to be blown away by it.
Ultimately, MSI thought it was clever to take its budget Katana GF66 (12Ux), shove the latest and greatest from Intel and NVIDIA inside, and call it a bargain laptop. Yeah… no. In particular, the RTX 3070 Ti option is really underpowered, and the major reason for that is the cooling. This was not unexpected, since the Katana GF66 wasn’t particularly impressive last year as well.
If playing games is your core concern and you don’t really care for slim bezels or fancy laptop materials, the MSI Katana GF66 12UE was a solid, budget-friendly option at the previous price of £1099. But at £1399, the hardware and design are not up to the standard of competition from the likes of Acer, ASUS, Gigabyte, and Lenovo.
There’s not a lot going for the MSI Katana GF66 apart from its strong performance. It overcame its competitors in most of our CPU and GPU benchmarks. But that’s not enough when the GF66 falters when it comes to the key pillars of a gaming laptop. The display is dull, the battery life is shorter than a feature film, and it’s not nearly as portable as other laptops.
MSI Katana GF66 11UD is an example of a well-balanced gaming laptop that is capable of offering a sufficient level of performance for the segment, albeit not a record. At the same time, it managed not to fail in many other aspects. Thus, the user has his hands free for the future upgrade of individual internal components, the laptop has a sufficient number of ports, as well as a keyboard suitable for all tasks.
So with the testing, temperature and acoustic testing done and dusted it’s clear the MSI Katana GF66 is a capable and fairly portable offering. It plays most games with relative ease and is powerful enough for AAA gaming at acceptably decent refresh rates. Importantly, performance isn’t lost when it’s working hard to cool the CPU and GPU in demanding gaming sessions and wearing a headset, which is typically done when gaming, would alleviate the issues with acoustics should the fans really annoy you.
The MSI’s low price, solid 1080p gaming pace, decent Intel processor and good-quality keyboard make this an ideal option for everyday gaming on a tight budget. But the poor screen and battery and the lack of features are a hindrance, and can be rectified by only spending a little more elsewhere.
There is lots to like about this machine, although the snips made to push the price down are sure to rankle some. The battery life is well below par, the thermals could do with refinement, and the webcam would look retrograde on even a five-year-old machine. But, if you’re going to stick this on a desk, keep it constantly plugged in to power and never do more than the odd Zoom, does any of that matter?
The MSI Katana GF66 is an great mid-range gaming laptop featuring the latest 12th Gen Intel CPUs, GPU support up to Nvidia RTC 3070 Ti and room for additional RAM and SSD upgrades. On the base model, the Intel Core i7-12700H and the RTX 3050Ti combo works very well to deliver solid performance numbers when it comes to multitasking, creative editing and 1080p gaming.
