The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is a nice demonstration of Samsung's technical innovation, but the S8 and S8 Plus are likely much more practical for most people. When you jump to a tablet of this size and price, a full-fledged laptop is a better option than a tablet with an operating system that is not complete and optimized for the tablet form factor.

The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is glorious overkill—no one needs it, so no, you shouldn't buy one. That doesn't mean it's not interesting or useful, though. The rest of the credit goes to Samsung's enhancements to Android 12 split-screen functionality.

That battery life, coupled with the incredible display, bundled stylus and competitive pricing makes me desperately want to recommend the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra as an alternative to the 12.9in iPad Pro. It is, in many respects, a ground breaking product. Alas, I can’t, and that’s due to a steady accumulation of negatives.
Incredibly slim, sleek design, a brilliant, punchy screen that’s expansive – perfect for watching, photo editing, or sketching on, and plenty of power help Samsung’s novel, niche, attention-grabbingly big Tab S8 Ultra stand out – if you can fit it into your workflow. The iPad supports more creative apps and has a brighter display, but can’t compete when it comes to size and versatility.
With its 14.6-inch Super AMOLED display, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is a real eye-catcher in the truest sense of the word. But its strengths are not only aesthetic: The fast Snapdragon ensures superb performance in all areas, the speakers deliver good sound, DeX mode can be run directly on the device, and the cameras are ideally suited for video calls.
Ultimately, the Tab S8 Ultra is a tablet that’s the size of a laptop, mimics a laptop’s form factor (especially when paired with its keyboard case), and comes with the price tag of a laptop. But it’s far from as capable as a laptop that is more comfortable to use and easier to be productive with.
But still, should you buy the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra if you want the best Android tablet available right now? The most versatile Android experience? And the answer is certainly yes – if you're a diehard Android user, you'll probably love this tablet, and there's no other like it.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is the coolest device with the highest performance and functionality to date. It has almost no weaknesses in technical terms, there are only some issues of ergonomics and scenarios of use, due to the giant size of this beauty. And the price reminds us once again that premium things cost accordingly.
The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is both excellent and niche. It’s too big to read books on but perfect for magazines or chunky textbooks. It’s a bit clumsy to watch a movie on it hand-held, but prop it up, and it’s the best tablet for big-screened blockbusters money can buy. Touch-screen games won’t be the best unless you’ve got giant fingers but hook up a controller and you’ll lose yourself with PlayStation Remote Play, Steam Link or a 3D Android game.
The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is a big screen Android tablet that at first glance looks like a direct rival to the iPad Pro 12.9-inch. During testing we found the tablet offers great performance and one of the best screens we’ve seen on an Android tablet for media consumption and cloud gaming. But a lack of full fat creative apps on Google’s official store hinder it’s appeal to power users and creatives. People in search of a tablet for creative or power-user tasks will be better off investing in an iPad Pro or Surface Pro 8 as a result.

The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is the most OTT Android tablet around, with a huge display and top specs – but you’ll pay for it. Be sure that you’ll need this much power, and that you wouldn’t be better suited to a similarly priced laptop.
An undeniably excellent tablet, but with a price of entry to match and more money required for the keyboard cover. It’s very light, very powerful, and has the best screen we’ve seen on a tablet, especially for streaming media. The continued limitations of the Android OS won’t have Apple and Windows sweating just yet though.
You get a lot for a lot of money, and yes: Samsung gets a lot right! As a Netflix machine, the device is a real hit because the display and the fantastic speakers are simply fun to watch movies with. The performance is top-notch and the S Pen offers a whole realm of possibilities. However, I am still annoyed that Samsung did not include a slot for the S Pen.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is a totally over the top, thanks to its huge screen, but a very exciting tablet for creatives. Running with the idea that bigger is better, it maxes out specs, supports S Pen input, and features a dual-front camera for high-quality ultra-wide video calls and selfies. With support for apps like Lightroom and that gorgeous 14.6-inch Super AMOLED display, on paper, it should be a fantastic photography tool on first impression.
Whether or not the Tab S8 Ultra works for you very much depends on how you envisage yourself using it. If you're after a convenient, nimble, everyday device for casual gaming and media consumption, this isn't it. However, if you see yourself using a tablet to create - whether it be digital artwork, video editing or writing - the big screen and optional stylus make it a compelling canvas for those kinds of tasks.
The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is a solid device, with premium-feeling hardware and a sleek design. Samsung really produced their greatest slate yet. Sadly, we feel like the days of Android tablets in the mainstream are over, with inferior chip technology and an OS that simply isn’t the greatest.
Not everyone wants or needs a 14.6-inch tablet, but if you do then the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is a real pleasure to both work and draw on. The Super AMOLED 120Hz display is stunning, it packs the latest 4nm processor and you get the S Pen included in the box. You'll also get the benefit of dual front cameras to make high-quality video calls.
The keyboard cover does app more productivity-focused use cases, but the fact is that the Tab S8 Ultra can’t really replace a laptop, given Android’s limitations as a desktop OS. The lack of a built-in kickstand and average battery life are small concerns too. That said, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is a supersized slate that offers a gorgeous display, a useful S Pen and tons of handy features, making it a powerful tool in your arsenal, especially if you’re a creative professional.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra leads the pack with its massive and luscious display, innovative DeX interface, bundled Book Cover keyboard case, portable design and superb performance – this is easily the most powerful Android tablet for 2022 though such versatility and performance does not come cheap.
