Small phone fans rejoice! The iPhone 12 mini is a pocket rocket with almost everything from the regular flagship inside a beautifully compact chassis.
During the week I used it, the iPhone 12 Mini got good battery life for its size. The 12 Mini made it through a day of regular use with no problem. I ran a battery test playing a looped video while the phone was in airplane mode. Apple's website states the 12 Mini should last 15 hours. In my test it lasted 14 hours, 48 minutes.

The Apple iPhone 12 mini might be the smallest of the iPhone 12 models, but it is a fantastic little device that shouldn't be underestimated. With the iPhone 12 mini, Apple impressively demonstrates that a high-end smartphone does not necessarily have to be big. However, the smaller space also has its limits and forces the Californian's smallest smartphone to compromise on battery capacity in particular. Nevertheless, the Mini manages decent runtimes, although the need for charging will likely be required by evening.
With all that said, I really, really like Apple’s iPhone 12 Mini. Small phones are just my forte. Getting great build quality and incredible performance in a phone this small, for this price, is great. If you’re someone who’s been looking to downsize your device and you’re okay with Apple’s ecosystem, you should absolutely give the iPhone 12 Mini a look.
However, there’s nothing quite like the iPhone 12 mini, and if you think you can put up with a shorter battery life and you desperately want or need a smaller phone, then it’s a five out of five recommendation. There isn’t anything that’s remotely as good or as small with as good a camera as this on the smartphone market today.
The iPhone 12 mini stands alone as not only one of very few small phones but the very best of small phones. Apple has managed to cram all of what was fantastic about the iPhone 12 into a genuinely small frame. You don't lose anything major if you choose the iPhone 12 mini over its larger sibling – you get the same construction quality, IP68 rating, software, and accessory ecosystem.
If you’re looking for a slightly older iPhone and think picking up the 12 mini will save you extra cash, you’re looking at it wrong. You shouldn’t buy this iPhone because it’s cheaper, you should buy it if you’ve been hankering for a smaller phone and are happy with the sacrifices that come with it. For most people, I still think the regular iPhone is the best buy, regardless of whether it’s a 12, 13 or 14.
The fact that the 12 mini hasn’t been dumbed down and still has that A14 Bionic chipset does make this a pretty special package, though. Many people want smaller smartphones, but not necessarily with less performance or lower specs, and Apple has the perfect answer to that, with its marvellous mini iPhone 12.
We’re weary of big phones, yet sacrificing camera quality and performance is out-of-the-question and that’s where the iPhone 12 Mini, like Sony’s Xperia 5 II, hits the sweet spot. Battery life isn’t world-beating, but it’s a small price to pay for pure pocket gold.
A welcome compact alternative to the oversized competition. While its size may be a throwback, there’s nothing dated about the iPhone 12 mini. With the same screen tech, power and camera as the traditional iPhone 12, not to mention water resistance, high-end design and fun colour options, if you’re after a small phone, this is the best out there.
