However, at the end of the day, the T-Rex 2 is not only a sports watch. It also impressed in everyday use with its bright, sharp display and reliable notification delivery. There are only really two points of complaint: The device lacks a media speaker for telephone calls and voice prompts as well as reply options for notifications. They are reduced to short preformulated replies. Apart from that, the T-Rex 2 made positive impressions throughout. Even in the areas of performance and battery life. Thanks to the touchscreen and four buttons, everyone can find their preferred way of interacting with the device - even with gloves in winter.
The Amazfit T-Rex 2 is a powerful, chunky beast which looks and feels impressively rugged. It’s a great outdoors watch, but a few small accuracy issues and some less intuitive on-the-fly controls prevent it from being a budget Garmin-killer.
The Amazfit T-Rex 2 has a number of impressive features and is built to get you around just about every outdoor adventure imaginable at a fraction of the price of some of its competitors. That said, it’s not as polished as said competitors, and can be a little glitchy.
If you’re looking for a rugged smartwatch and don’t want to pay up to $1,000 to get a Garmin device, then the Amazfit T-Rex 2 is perfect for the job, its predecessor still doing a great job a couple of years later. So using only plastic is not really that much of a deal breaker. The display is one of the best features of the smartwatch and the software does offer a healthy amount of features, including lots of workout types and the curiously effective PAI. I do dislike the lack of a microphone and some design elements are a bit tacky, but overall, it’s a decent smartwatch, capable of holding its ground against its main competitors.
During testing we found plenty of positives with the Watch S1 with it featuring good hardware, for the price, and reliable albeit basic fitness tracking and notification support. Where it falls down is with the promise of big sports watch features and smartwatch features that aren’t quite on a level with the competition just yet. I’m sure Xiaomi will get there, but competition at this price is fierce and I’m not sure the Xiaomi Watch S1 does enough to beat rivals.

While this is a very tough wearable both in design and physicality, it has so much more going for it than those things. It's loaded with sport and health tracking features, along with excellent battery life. Can this device, which resides between smartwatch and fitness tracker, be your do it all device? Probably.
The Amazfit T-Rex 2 is the type of outdoor watch we hoped the original T-Rex would be. It feels built to handle tough environments, but still has desirable features like a sharp touchscreen display and slick operating system. Adding navigation features and the ability to import routes is the big deal here. If you don't want to spend big on an outdoor smartwatch, the T-Rex 2 comes recommended.
I found little to fault with the Amazfit T-Rex 2 and it’s certainly worth its relatively modest price. It would be good value even at $300/£300, offering impressive and accurate sports tracking and long battery life in a watch with an AMOLED screen. The design isn’t all that nice, in my opinion, but that is a matter of taste and I didn’t hate having the watch on my wrist. It’s light and comfortable, and has a range of appealing watch faces.
Whatever your preferred sport or discipline, the T-Rex 2 will almost certainly be able to track it, and track it accurately. The rugged construction and chunky design help it fit in just about everywhere, from the slopes and the surf to your back garden, and it shrugs off the elements too. This is a fitness watch first, with the handful of smart additions being on the basic side. It’s also lacking one or two features that would let it excel standalone, like on-watch music playback over Bluetooth. But if you want those extras and insist on a hard-wearing watch, you’d have to pay a fair bit more from Garmin or Polar.
I would love to have this watch when I am going on long hikes or adventures and while in the gym. But simple features like not being able to pick up the phone may be problematic sometimes. In other ways, it’s the perfect smartwatch that is really tough and comes with a long-lasting battery and well manages OS. Furthermore, the OS is easy to navigate and therefore can be learned in a short time.
The Amazfit T-Rex 2 is a significant improvement over the T-Rex Pro: it has a larger display, longer battery life and better GPS chip. Sensor accuracy could be better, and the watch feels bulky for its sake, but if you're on a tight budget, the T-Rex 2 is still worth considering as your next outdoor watch.
