By all means, yes. In the iPhone 12 generation, there's barely a reason to go for a Pro — unless you shoot straight for the iPhone 12 Pro Max. But then, you wouldn't even be considering the iPhone 12, right?
The iPhone 12 series brings top-notch design, world-class connectivity, and an improved Night-mode camera to the nation's most popular phone. But with four similar models, which one is best? It's complicated.
For the group of people who want a new iPhone without the price tag of the iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 13 range, this is a great choice. There's no settling for second best with this smartphone.
Viewed on its own, the iPhone 12 once again impresses with its great workmanship and beautiful design. The new MagSafe port will probably soon bring a lot of third-party accessories, as we have seen in the past, and can even be used to charge the smartphone.
The iPhone 12 is a good phone, and I say good to make a point. It feels like it’s selling more than it’s offering. Superb performance and a great main camera wrapped in a stylish design are fairly compelling, but a weak ultra-wide sensor, a 3-year-old display, and a paltry base storage aren’t easy to overlook with everything else on the market.
The iPhone 12 represents a jump forward for the iPhone, not only in terms of design but functionality too. The industrial angular design of the phone may take some getting used to, but there’s a charm to it, and it feels much more secure in the hand than curvier alternatives too.
Personally, I would pick up the iPhone 12 Pro over the iPhone 12, mostly due to the extra 2GB of RAM and better build quality. But if 64GB of storage isn’t an issue and you don’t want to spend as much to get a standard-sized iPhone, you can technically get this device starting at $799. You probably won’t feel like you’re missing much either.
This is a very, very good phone. It may not be the pinnacle of what Apple offers – but it is better than the iPhone 11 and hits the sweet spot of size to features to value for iPhone fans. I expect it will be the most popular phone Apple sells this year and into next.
The iPhone 12 marks a significant design improvement on the last three years of iPhones. Like a skilful remix of the good bits of a decade of iPhones, the iPhone 12 harks back to the stellar design of the iPhone 4 while keeping the all-screen front, Face ID and excellent gesture system of the iPhone X. It is lighter, thinner and narrower, which makes holding and using it with one hand a lot easier, while its 6.1in screen is a significant improvement compared with its predecessors.
Even Pro buyers might want to consider a downgrade this year. By giving the iPhone 12 the same display and speedy 5G modem, the only reasons to jump to the Pro are the telephoto lens and a smattering of camera enhancements, including a LiDAR scanner.
